Police investigating reports of ball bearings damaging windows

Police are investigating multiple reports of ball bearings damaging property in Pershore.

It comes as Doreen Brewer was left scared to leave her home in Charlton after her window shattered on Sunday night.

West Mercia Police officers have since been to the 80-year-old woman's home and figured out what happened.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Officers have attended and spoken to the family.

"On inspection, it was discovered the glass door has been smashed with a ball baring which was still stuck in the glass.

"At the moment no suspects have been seen or suspect vehicles identified."

Mrs Brewer, who turns 81 later this month, was watching TV on Sunday, March 5, when there was a sudden "loud bang" at around 7.45 pm.

Her daughter, Hayley West, said: "We had to talk her into going out as she wouldn't come out of her home at first."

And it appears Mrs Brewer may not be the only one who has seen their property damaged in recent weeks.

John Yeo, who lives in a village outside Pershore, claims his car was shot last month while parked on his driveway, causing £528 of damage.

"Since then, I have heard of similar incidents involving ball bearings damaging domestic windows in Defford, Pershore and I believe Peopleton as well as car windows and even a cyclist's mirror," he said.

"Just yesterday I heard of a vehicle having been hit in the side panel whilst driving along the B4084 towards Cropthorne.

"There is clearly a crazy person out there driving around with a weapon getting some kick out of targeting house windows and cars.

"It's been happening for at least a month now!

"This needs to be stopped very quickly because someone will be seriously hurt."

Pershore Safer Neighbourhood Team has now launched an appeal for more information.

"We have had a couple reports of incidents involving ball bearings or pellets damaging windows in the Pershore area.

"Please report any suspicious activity on 101 or 999."

West Mercia Police has been contacted for more information regarding the allegations made by Mr Yeo.
